Watermelon is one of those foods that always makes me think of summer. And, it’s such a fun thing to incorporate in summer learning.
So, slice up some watermelon and print out these watermelon counting cards for some free summer fun!
How to Use these Watermelon Counting Cards
Last year, my daughter and I had so much fun playing in a Watermelon Sensory Bin and this year in a watermelon-inspired sensory tray.
And, since summer is the perfect time for watermelon-themed learning I decided to make some fun watermelon printables too, like these watermelon counting cards to practice counting 1-10.
Here are some fun ways to use these cards this summer or all year long:
- Hang them on the Wall – There are a lot of ways to use these cards, but the easiest way is to simply hang them on the wall. Print out these cards and hang them on the wall where your child can see them easily. They’ll be able to touch and count the watermelon slices on each card throughout the day and start understanding that 4 watermelon slices are represented by the number symbol 4.
- Go Fish Game Cards – Print out two sets of these cards and use them to play Go Fish. Your child will be practicing number recognition and counting as they play a fun game!
- Counting Practice – Set out this set of cards on a table or the floor and provide your child with small counters. Have them place a counter, such as a bingo chip, lego, or other small toys over top of each watermelon slice as they count the slices on each card.

We did this last year and cut up a real whole watermelon to play with! It was an amazing full sensory experience with my daughter being able to see, touch, taste, smell, and play with real watermelon. I highly recommend trying it if you have the time this summer.

We just did this low-cost, low-mess watermelon sensory play. And, it was so much fun!
