K is for kangaroo and kite this week as we continue our Letter of the Week Series with Letter K!

Each week for 26 weeks I created a new printable activity pack all about the focus letter of the week. The corresponding posts include book lists, a list of animals that start with the letter of the week and play ideas or activities relating to each letter.

Does a kangaroo have a mother? What about a lion or a bear? This cute book answers those questions for your kiddos while reassuring them of a mother’s love.

Letter K Play Ideas

Let’s go fly a kite!

Besides the letter K craft in your Letter K Notebook, try making some kites this week to fly outside or down the hall in the house.

I found a really good video on how to make a super simple and quick kite. In the video, they add a paper tail to the bottom of the kite, but you could just as easily add ribbon, crepe paper or anything else you want that’s lightweight.

In addition, once you see how the paper will be folded and attached you could have your child draw pictures on the paper you use instead of just using colored paper. But, it’s so easy you could make several very quickly.

Letter K Fine Motor Fun:

  • Let kids try unlocking old padlocks with keys or small boxes you might have at home as a fine motor activity.
  • Try tying some knots this week. Provide shoelaces or pieces of rope and let your child practice tying knots. Maybe they even want to practice tying their shoes this week! Although, most children under five aren’t ready for this yet.
