Y is for yellow, yawn, and yo-yo this week as we continue our Letter of the Week Series with Letter Y!

Letter Y Sensory Play
Yellow Sensory Bin
Even if your child already knows their colors a color themed sensory bin is still so much fun! Below are a few ideas for yellow sensory bin bases and fillings.
Yellow-themed sensory bin filling ideas:
- Pasta
- Yellow Rice
- Beans
- Yellow paper scraps
- Pompoms in various shades of yellow
- Yellow water beads
- Sand
- Water with Yellow food coloring added
- Yarn
Add a few of the things below to one of the bases above:
- Yellow counting bears
- Sensory Stars
- Yellow ribbon
- Toy taxis
- Yellow cups, bowls, or measuring cups
- Toy boats
- Yellow sponges
- Play lemons or lemon slices
- Yellow flowers or petals
- Rubber ducks
- Yellow Duplo or Lego bricks
Playdough
Play with yellow playdough this week. And, try a few of these things for your letter Y week:
- Add a sensory element with a little lemon juice or zest mixed in your dough
- Form the letter Y
- Make yellow stars
- Form playdough into yellow foods like lemons, bananas, or pineapples
- Make a bouquet of yellow flowers
- Give them the challenge to think of something yellow and to make it out of their playdough
Yellow Art Station
Set up an art station this week with only yellow art supplies.
Include things like:
- Yellow crayons
- Markers
- Chalk
- Pastels
- Watercolor Paint
- Washable yellow paint
Also, include some yellow artwork as inspiration, like Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. Or, have them create a true still life by setting a bouquet of real or fake flowers near their art supplies that they can paint or draw.
