One Thing you can do Right Now to Transform your Home

Turn on the radio.

Yup, that’s it.

Pandora to the rescue.

Even if I feel like I’ve failed at parenting, homeschooling, or whatever for the day.

It can all change with a single song.

Throw on some Mercy Me and listen to your kids praise Jesus through the scripture in their songs.

It’s like a reset button.

You can turn on the radio, throw in a CD, or Grab your iPhone and put on Pandora. If you don’t have it yet it, it’s super easy to download it and create a channel. Just enter an artist or a song you like and get listening.

We use Pandora almost every day in our home. In the car we have XM radio and listen to The Message, which plays Contemporary Christian songs.

The reason listening to music works so well is that you can do it anytime anywhere with no planning or preparation. In fact, that’s the point, it is great for when your day turns into a chaotic crumbling mess of tantrums and not so pretty mommy moments.

Besides being a great reset for your day, there are other reasons that playing Christian music is great for our kids.

1.Your hiding God’s word in their hearts.

It’s one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to memorize scripture.

Your kids will absorb scripture while they’re throwing food at their brother, peeing on the carpet perfectly and happily doing what you ask.

2. It makes you a better parent.

You can’t praise God and yell at your kids at the same time. Besides, it’s hard be in a bad mood while being thankful or singing about kindness and love.

3.You can point out scripture when you hear it in the verses of the songs.

Just share it with them if you know it, or pull out your bible and look it up together.

Courageous by Casting Crowns, is an example of a Christian song that quotes scripture.

“Seek Justice, Love Mercy, Walk humbly with your God.” references the verse from Micah 6:8

“The lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8

We actually looked this one up one day while listening to the song and shared it with our kiddos.

Below you can grab a  printable sheet of 7 contemporary Christian songs that closely quote scripture.

I made it into a game for my kids so they could “catch” the songs on the radio singing scripture. Hopefully, it gets them to listen more closely to the words in the songs. And, I hope it helps me to pull out the bible more often when I’m singing along to the radio.

Hi there, I'm so glad you stopped by. I'm Heidi, a perfectly imperfect woman, wife, and homeschooling mama who lives each day by the grace Jesus provides and a strong pot of coffee. We are a full time Rving family and spent last year roadschooling across the United States and loved every minute of it! I love National Parks and spending time with my family seeking out new adventures.

  1. I have always had Christian radio on in the car. And now, even though my daughter is not living for God, she still knows the lyrics! And with prayer and lots of love I know she will be back. Great job for putting this in a blog post

    • Thank you Steph, I’m glad my post spoke to you. I love feeling that even if my day has turned upside down I am still doing something great for my kids by just turning on the radio. It is so inspiring to hear about the hope you have for your daughter through doing the same thing.

  2. You are so right about this! We have XM in the car too and when the kids are getting ready for school in the morning we listen to KLove. Amazing how listening to a song or singing together can change even my grumpiest kid’s mood in an instant. 🙂

    • Absolutely! I love that it’s so simple and works on setting all our moods straight, even mine;) I hadn’t heard of KLove but I just looked it up and we have a station here I can check out!
