Spring Vocabulary Word Cards

This week I set up a quick writing center with my new spring vocabulary word cards.

We’ve already been adding spring themed learning into our homeschool. We’ve been storytelling with our butterfly finger puppets and doing math with our butterfly counting jar.

But, I knew I needed to add some spring vocabulary ideas because my daughter has been a vocabulary sponge lately!

It feels like she’s been asking what every other word means. Gobbling up new words and their definitions with a voracious appetite. And, this word-loving mama loves it!:)

So, to encourage her I made these fun spring vocabulary word cards.

Spring Vocabulary Word Cards

I made a set of twenty vocabulary cards. There are so many words I could have included… But, these are the ones I chose:

  1. Spring
  2. April
  3. Showers
  4. Galoshes
  5. Mushroom
  6. Flower
  7. Snail
  8. Caterpillar
  9. Butterfly
  10. Ladybug
  11. Umbrella
  12. Chick
  13. Bunny
  14. Flowerpot
  15. Garden
  16. Sprout
  17. Bird
  18. Blossom
  19. Bee
  20. Rainbow

I added pictures to some of the cards too as a prompt for pre-readers. My daughter is loving that she can “read” the word cards with the pictures on them without my help;)

Spring Vocabulary Writing Center

After printing off the cards, (this is the printer I use), I made two different writing centers for my daughter.

The first, I made by cutting down the middle of a page of cards and taping the two strips together. This gave me a long strip of words that I hung on the backside of our kitchen island.

Then, I cut a few pieces of white paper into little rectangles. I hole punched them and strung them on a metal shower curtain ring. And, hung the paper on a command strip next to the words and voila! A quick and simple writing center.

I didn’t even have to prompt my daughter to use it:) She went right to it and started writing out the words.

The second writing center I made includes a set of words cards and a clipboard. I hole punched the word cards and strung them on another shower curtain ring. Then, I attached the words to the clipboard and put a long strip of paper on it.
