Put a twist on your poetry study this fall with fall-themed acrostic pumpkin poetry!

Acrostic Poetry is done using letters in a line, usually the first letters of a word or phrase. But, it can also be done using middle or end letters. It is a fun way to play with words, letters, and syllables in a poetry form that is easy for kids to understand.

I made a few versions of a simple pumpkin acrostic printable that you can use with your kiddos this fall as a fun poetry activity. And, below I included some word lists for an acrostic poem using the word pumpkin.

Pumpkin Poetry

I made several versions of the acrostic pumpkin poetry page. Two with lines of different sizes and one blank. I also included one page with the word in the middle of the poem and one with the word at the end. These should be challenging for older kids. I wanted my 6-year-old and 11-year-old to be able to do the same activity, so if you have multiple ages this activity should work for all your learners.

For young kids just adding one word after each letter is a great way to do this activity. And, older kids can try writing a sentence for each letter or even a whole pumpkin story.

Below I’ve listed some words ideas for each letter in the word pumpkin. Use any one word in the poems or let a word be the start of a sentence on each line.

Your child can focus on a fall or pumpkin theme or get creative and make up any story based on the letters. The word lists below should help to spark some creative ideas. And, you can also make your own word lists with your child to extend the activity.
