Letter F Book List
Ferdinand by Munro Leaf
We love this book! Ferdinand the bull wants to sit just quietly under the cork tree and smell the flowers. But, everyone thinks he should be snorting, pawing, butting his head, and of course fighting in the bullring. Except for his mother. She wants Ferdinand to just be himself. Find out if Ferdinand becomes who everyone wants him to be or if he gets to be himself in this sweet story.
Fancy Nancy by Jane O’Connor
Fancy is one sparkly girly-girl! And, she loves to be fancy. Even her words are fancy as she introduces children to new vocabulary in her stories with simple definitions. This book series is fantastic for exposing kids to new vocabulary without it being a chore.
Flora and the Flamingo by Molly Idle
This is a wordless interactive flap book that follows a flamingo and a little girl named Flora as they become friends. Flora tries to imitate the flamingo’s movements and they dance through the book together.
Frog and Toad by Arnold Lobel
Frog and toad are the best of friends doing everything together. This animal story will highlight good friendship for your little one and give you an opportunity to talk about how it should look.
Around the Farm by Mark Rader
My daughter used this Eric Carle book for years. She would sit for long periods and press the buttons to listen to the animal noises. The right side has a list of 30 pressable animal pictures for your child to press that go along with the images in the book. I really like that children can just sit and press the images with the book closed as well.
Fox in Socks by Dr. Seuss
Fox in Socks is full of fabulous tongue twisters your kids will love to hear you read out loud. This is definitely one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books. My kiddos have loved to listen as I read this story. And, of course, they always want to see if I get tripped up before the book ends;)
One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss
This Dr. Seuss classic has a full line-up of silly made up characters for you and your child to laugh about as you read. And, it’s chock full of great rhyming so you’ll be working on those early literacy skills in a really fun way.

Letter F Play Ideas
Firefighter Dramatic Play
Add a few of these things to your play area this week:
- A raincoat
- Plastic fireman’s hat
- A jump rope your child can pretend is a firehose
- A bell they can ring when they’re heading to a fire
If you have a few empty cereal or kleenex boxes lying around they would be a good material to stack and make buildings out of. Then your child can put out building fires.
This is also a great week to teach your child some fire safety. The U.S. Fire Administration’s main page has a large number of resources available on their site. Including links to printable handouts, checklists, posters, fun fire safety activities, and information for parents and caregivers to share with kiddos about fire safety.
Farm Play
Materials to provide for farm play:
- Play Farm animals
- Wooden Blocks
- Legos
- Easter Grass for Hay
- Cardboard Box to use as a barn
Use a recycled cardboard box to make a super frugal barn this week. Paint or color it red. Once it’s dry, cut a few doors in the sides of the box. Then, your child can add fences out of the blocks to make animal pens and pastures.
Have fun learning about Letter F this week!
